Qualified Yoga Teacher (ERYT500) | Desire Map Facilitator | Dance Teacher
My dream is to live in a world where yoga is medicine, desire is celebrated, everyone exudes aliveness, and dancing in the streets is highly encouraged – if not mandatory.
My passion for movement comes from my very first love – dance. I studied everything from ballet to hip hop, and I was a dance teacher for many years.
And then, at the sweet age of 25, the universe threw me a sudden spiritual grenade in the form of advanced stage bowel cancer. Literally overnight the world as I knew it was no more…
Faced with a 1 in 5 chance of survival, I embraced all the support I could, especially yoga – mostly simple breathing techniques and meditation – first as a way to manage the pain and the chemotherapy, then to heal and regain strength, and ultimately to help me with all the doubt and worry I’d been carrying around.
That was 10 years ago and through the wins and the losses, yoga has been my anchor. I found the same challenge and fun I had in dance, and so much more. I supported and healed my body, overcame fears around my illness and found a way to live fully, with grace, gratitude and an open heart.
I’ve learned so much along the way and my passion for feeling alive, strong and expressive invokes classes and programmes that are like no other.
But this isn’t about me, it’s about us! My aim is to help you feel better about yourself so you make better choices for yourself. To help you re-orientate your relationship to your busy life, get connected, move in harmony with your body, grow with ease, and awaken your power from within to become so strong, capable and open in your body and mind you do better than live well – you learn to live WOW.
Many tell me I am sought after for my breadth of knowledge, my non-dogmatic empowering approach, and attention to awakening – be it physical, mental and emotional. I can tell you this – I won’t let you ignore or abuse your body, and I most definitely won’t let you go through the motions and sleepwalk through life.
I’ll be your guide to unwind unhelpful habits, patterning, tension and thoughts. I’ll be there every step of the way to support you to uncover the best version of yourself.
But I appreciate it’s not an easy road. Unfortunately many of us are battling the silent epidemics of too little sleep, poor food choices, disrupted digestion, imbalanced hormones and high stress. The weighty responsibilities of our day-to-day life means it’s often easier to numb out and go on auto-pilot than to feel what we feel and make skillful choices for ourselves. I slogged it out in the corporate world for over 10 years, slowly making shifts to put energy in, instead of out, and honour what was important to me – the greatest asset we all have – our health.
It’s also my belief that getting back to health for health’s sake isn’t a big enough game to play. When we’re healthy and feeling well we have energy to move into the direction of our wildest dreams and create a life we love, a life of our highest potential.
That’s why I’m so passionate about helping others.
We’re all hungry to reach a higher state of health and fulfillment, to create more and to do good work in the world. To me, this is what it means to live WOW.
“Put the warmest heart and graceful action with shockingly razor sharp intellect and wit, package it in a beautiful embodiment of a human being and you get Adele Kinghan. I have had the pleasure of knowing Adele for six years, and consider her to be the full package of a master facilitator. Adele has the rare capacity to make anyone feel joyous to be alive. She somehow makes the most complicated things seem easily achievable, and approaches each day and task with untroubled competence evocative of all the world’s greatest leaders. Her depth and breadth of yogic knowledge is paralleled by few. I would highly recommend any training with Adele as a rich tapestry of deep learning, and an elegant dive into being, with a great great teacher.”

QUICK FACTS ABOUT ME
I’m married with a wonderful Kiwi husband (we got married in Las Vegas) and we have our (now 6 years old!) fur child Forrest the Weimaraner. We’ve lived all over the world, with our top places being Canmore in Canada – awwww, those mountains, they make my heart ache with their majesty, and Bali, Indonesia with the great surf, yoga, fresh juices, beautiful people…the list goes on.
In our effort to honour our freedom loving lifestyle back here in NZ we’ve recently purchased Hemi, our 1982 Kombi van. So far he’s done us proud.
I’m big on going chemical free (I even make my own shampoo) but I don’t think you have to forgo beautiful, functional products to do so. But hey, animal testing is not ok.
I romanticise the simple, minimalist lifestyle and often get it right. That said, I still love all things BOHO…Spell Gypsy Collective anyone?
I love every minute of time spent on the mat – whether it’s teaching or my home practice. When you work with me yoga isn’t about a pose, a style or a certain ‘level’ of practice. Instead it’s a way in to full embodiment – of feeling so alive and connected to the community of health and awesome potential that is living and breathing inside of you that anything is possible. You can read more about my teaching bio here.
I’m vegetarian but I cook my husband organic local meat. I’m a big fan of bio-individuality… i.e. no one eating regime suits everyone, and it’s more about who you are when you eat rather than exactly what you eat that influences your health. I honour my body but love to celebrate life and all the tasty treats that come along with it, so I mostly play by the 80 : 20 rule, 80% of the time I eat super well and the rest I go by what feels good.
I love to dance and hike and snowboard, but am crap at group sports (my only child competitive steak comes out). I’d choose chocolate over potato chips any day, and love a Kiwi pinot, but nothing beats a good beer after a day on the mountain.
